The independent alt-pop artist VÉRITÉ is back with an end of the year gift to her fans and music lovers alike with her EP, Bunker Studios Sessions, Brooklyn, NY. Kelsey Regina Byrne, known professionally as Vérité, is joined by the all-female chamber orchestra, Little Kruta. The collaborative project contains five spellbinding and evocative orchestral arrangements of VÉRITÉ’s fan favorites. The string arrangements are written by cellist Kristine Kruta, the leader of Little Kruta. The remaining members are: violin-Maia Im, Concert Mistress and soloist, Niclole Wright, Alexandra Jenkins, and Madeleine Jansen. On Viola- Tia Allen and Laura Sacks, and on cello- Kristine Kruta and Sasha Onon. Rounding out the date is Adi Meyerson on upright bass, Zach Nicita on drums and Bryan Percivall on electric bass.  Bunker Studios Sessions, Brooklyn, NY was inspired by a performance at National Sawdust, Brooklyn for The Hum Series earlier this year – a celebration of female and nonbinary artistry. “I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to work with an orchestra. It’s such a luxury to work in a studio with live musicians, reinterpreting songs that I’ve lived with for so long,” says VÉRITÉ on the collection. “I was introduced to Little Kruta, a crowd funded, NYC based orchestra by chance when I was asked to perform arrangements of my music with a 20 piece, all female orchestra at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY earlier this year. The reaction to the performance and working with such talented, badass women made this EP inevitable. It’s nice to make something beautiful and have it exist in the world. I’m excited to end a chapter with this set of music.”

Positives:

Hearing VÉRITÉ in this intimate setting allows her vocal power and control to be heard in a new and beautiful light. The string arrangements are outstanding.

Bottom Line:

The beauty of National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY is VÉRITÉ’s singing albites. Her voice is warm across her wide range and her phrasing is always full of surprises. Kruta’s arrangements allow VÉRITÉ to strike a new emotional core with these songs, and it is stunning, emotional and highly musical. The multi-layers of the string orchestra add a depth and richness to VÉRITÉ’s music that shows the power of her songwriting and creativity. “Nothing” finds VÉRITÉ’s rhythmic strength in her vocals, pushing the feel and rhythmic pulse so strongly that is it demonstrates her immense talent. The orchestra colors her vocal performance, but never gets in the way. A superb new direction and creative collaboration between a talented set of musicians, hopefully this is the first of many more to come! That’s the short of it!
