Hailing from the beautiful oasis called Denver, Colorado resides a duet called The Simple Parade. Consisting of vocalist Kayla Hooper and guitarists Justin Hooper, the duet creates a vibrant sound that will engage, elate and inform. With songwriting that contains lyrics that challenge the listener to think beyond the rigidness of limitation. The Hooper’s best describe their process. “It is easy to get caught in the mindset of viewing life as a rigid assembly line or an immovable traffic jam, but the hope is to instead see it as a joyful parade where everyone has their own unique part to play. The simplicity is that our parade should primarily be about the relationships we make along the way, and although the march is rarely easy, it never has to be made alone.” Their latest single is “Going Through Something,” which is a powerfully crafted tune that reckons the daily struggle at one time or another we all can go through. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Justin Hooper has a preeminent voice; his resonance and tone are compelling from the first notes he sings. Lyrically, “Going Through Something,” is a well-crafted homage to the many humans in this world who are hurting deeply and have demands of everyday life upon them, just trying to get by. Kayla Hooper lends her backing vocals to sweeten the songs timbre and impact.

Bottom Line:

There is something moving when a song’s lyrics hit home. Hooper has created a tune that elaborates the dilemma of self-doubt that so many of us encounter in our daily lives. He frames it in a caring and meaningful way and exalts the fact that he too is subject to the same doubts, but is willing to earnestly share his vulnerabilities through his music. His voice is a powerful vehicle and “Going Through Something” is an anthem of allowing oneself to heal. Won’t you join their parade? I am!
