Celebrating the raw and spiritual freedom of the 70s is the Zanibar Aliens. A four-piece rock band based in Portugal consisting of: Carl Karlsson (vocals, keyboards) and Filipe Karlsson (guitar) are the Swedish part of the band and Diogo Braga (drums) and Ricardo Pereira (bass) are the Portuguese part. The Zanibar Aliens are releasing their third album titled, Zanibar Aliens III. The album was recorded in Namouche Studios Lisbon, Bela Vista Studios and MAR with mixing and mastering by Filipe Karlsson. With ten songs that run the gamut of rock styles, all with a classic rock reverent attitude.

Positives:

Solid songwriting with attitudinal guitar and vocals. The Zanibar Aliens rock!

Bottom Line:

Line: Zanibar Aliens have a style focused on riff-based songwriting, like so many great 70s bands did. The songs instantly take on a substantive feeling as a result. Karlsson’s vocals are filled with energy, as is the interesting powerhouse of Pereira and Braga. Karlsson’s guitar work is excellent and his skills in mixing and mastering the album is also of note. Zanibar Aliens III brings the spirit of the 70s alive, with a few Southern Rock influences, such as “Human Error” and blues influences, on the tracks, “Not Around,” “Come on Down” and “All I Need is You” which offers a lighter mood, but still a 70s influence, with a touch of pop from that era. What was most striking about Zanzibar Aliens is their throwback authenticity. Its refreshing, well coined and a joy to listen to. That’s the short of it!
