Alice & The Underground is a group of warblers, pickers and grinners wrapped up nicely in a country roots sound.  The band features: Alice Sorensen, Jon Hildenstein, Danny Reisbick and Douglas Rosebank. The group has been working together since early 2016. Though each hail from different locales originally, they all now reside in New York. Together they create an eclectic sound that is honest, organic and based in great story songs that speak to the listeners sensibilities. Their latest offering is a 3 song EP titled Cocaine & Cabernet.

Positives:

Sorenson has a believable country voice, airing on the bad girl side of the street. Lordy!

Bottom Line:

Together this group of compadres is smoking hot. Solid tunes that lay heavy in the songcraft of country with seriously hip lyrics and an Austin attitude. “Might As Well Do Cocaine,” offers a witty play on words, set to a up-tempo shuffle. Whereas “Bad Cabernet” is a sweetly sung ballad that features more of an acoustic timbre. Sorenson once again convinces the listener to take her hand and go along the journey. “Change My Mind,” has a good old honky tonk feel. Once again, the group offers up solid songwriting and memorable melodies. A solid listen throughout. That’s the short of it!
