Vern Matz is a group that made the best of their studies and formed a band while attending Yale. The group consists of Danny Belgrad (lead vocals, guitar); Noah Silvestry (drums); Michael Lituchy (piano, backing vocals). Meeting at a college party and instantly connecting over their mutual admiration for Radiohead. Their catchy tunes haze the lines of alternative rock, pulling from other genres, but always keeping a solid foundation of songwriting. Thier style of songwriting puts solid musicianship with sounds of indie rock, folk, and alternative music. Vern Matz latest single, “Tiny Nuclear Reactor,” is produced by Peter Katis (The National).

Positives:

Great lyric writing and a band that knows how to push less is more, without destroying the effect.

Bottom Line:

Vern Matz’s latest creation, "Tiny Nuclear Reactor" (produced by Brian Deck), is propelled by a light rock beat and acoustic guitar strumming. The tune has interesting line clichés that add interest in the harmonic support as Belgrad sings the melody. The folk-infused vocals have solid lyrics of simpler times and the song structure has different feels and a bridge that grabs your attention with new sounds and harmonies. Vern Matz is making a solid musical reputation and you will want to be on this wave as it continues to build. That’s the short of it!
