The Statistics is an Americana-Indie Rock band comprised of Darby and Erin Yule. The brothers earned their songwriting stripes the old-fashioned way, long hours of working their craft with focused love and determination to succeed. Both have been blessed with singer-songwriter personalities in that they like to tell a story and invoke emotions. Their first EP, Haunts was produced by Paul Boechler. Next came the single “Jealous Heart” (produced by Elisa Pangsaeng) in 2016. In November 2016, they released their country inspired, regretful single “Old Habits” feat. Amy Kirkpatrick (produced by Elisa Pangsaeng) to a full house at the Prince George Playhouse Theatre. They were also nominated for “Best Out of Province Act” at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. They finished the year with placing in the semi-finals at Indie Week Toronto’s “Best in Fest” award.
In the spring of 2017, The Statistics went back into studio to start recording their new record The Robson Street Hymns, which is produced by Elisa Pangsaeng and The Statistics. The album features an all-star lineup of members from Said the Whale, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Colin James and Wide Mouth Mason. The Statistics first single off the new album, “True North,” reached 40,000 streams in the first month. The Statistics are now releasing their second single from the album, the track called, “Sparks in the Night.”
Positives:
Hip sibling harmonies and vocal colors make The Statistics melodies come alive.
Bottom Line:
“Sparks in the Night” is the second single from The Robson Street Hymns album, which is set to release later this year. Set to a relaxed rock beat with slightly crunchy guitars, the brothers take us through a solid song form. “Sparks in the Night” show that The Statistics understand tension and release in a song, as they have plenty of feel and texture changes within the tune. The lyrics are well-written and sung with feeling. The Statistics have a rich Alternative Rock sound that is inviting and will appeal to a large cast of listeners. That’s the short of it!
