The Bergamot is an indie-folk-rock duet comprised of husband-and-wife Jillian Speece and Nathaniel Paul Hoff. Based in Brooklyn, New York, the band was formed in 2009 by Hoff (lead guitarist/vocalist) and Speece (lead vocalist) in college at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The Bergamot’s have been releasing music and touring extensively ever since. In November 2017, they won Project Aloft Star via the (Aloft Hotel) Northern American competition. The Bergamot is now releasing their single titled, “L.A.” The song builds on the emotion of moving on. Whether it be love – or dreams – “L.A.” illustrates an emotional perspective of letting go and opening-up to the future with persisting hope.

Positives:

Buzzing male/female vocals through a well-crafted song that is catchy and deep with emotion and musicality.

Bottom Line:

“L.A.” has a rich texture of layered vocals over a dreamy soundscape of acoustic and electric guitars, subtle drums, feedback looped pianos through guitar amps, and guitars through synths. The result is a beautifully haunting sound the supports the duet’s timbre and thoughtful lyrics. The duet has a gorgeous blend between the two voices, their voices couple together like a great relationship knowing each curve, each loving corner and how to coax the most poignant emotions. That’s the short of it!
