Vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michelle Blades is a Mexican-Panamanian with a unique voice, both as a singer and songwriter. Blades has spent time in Panama, where she was born. Also, in Mexico, land of her mother’s family and Florida where she escaped from Manuel Noriega’s dictatorship and also in Arizona, where the fledgling woman met underground and alternative culture. Lastly, in France for a music career spanning over ten years. With a discography infused with her cultural influences and experiences from her nomadic life. Blades has released one LP, Ataraxia and three EPs: Nah See Ya, Polylust and Premature Love Songs with Midnight Special Records. In the past, she toured in several countries with French artist Fishbach, as a bassist. Blades is releasing a single from her up-coming album, Visitor, out March 29th on Midnight Special Records. We reviewed Blades’ single “Kiss Me On The Mouth,” (read review), which was met with great response. Blades new single “Politic!” will give listeners a chance to get insight to her new impending album.

Bottom Line:
Michelle Blades taps into a retro seventies’ vibe with a cool guitar riff and sultry politically charged lyrics. “Politic!” has a companion video in a live session from Visitor it features Blades in a live setting with her relaxed and hip vibe. Joined by musicians: Alexandre Bourit, Paloma Gil, Pierre-Louis Vizioz, and Victor Peynichou. The guitar harmony parts are catchy, and Blades vocal control is solid in this live performance and she exploits her wide range. The song form is solid with varying feels and sections that keep our interest as the lyrics hit home. Blades has a wonderful new single on her hands. It rings with hip catchy vibes and offers the listener poignant lyrics to ponder. That’s the short of it!
