Michelle Blades is a Mexican-Panamanian multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. Blades has been producing a discography infused with her cultural influences and experiences from her nomadic life. Blades has spent time in Panama, where she was born; Mexico, land of her mother’s family; Florida where she escaped from Manuel Noriega’s dictatorship, Arizona, where the fledgling woman met underground and alternative culture and France for a music career spanning over ten years. Blades has released one LP, Ataraxia and three EPs: Nah See Ya, Polylust and Premature Love Songs with Midnight Special Records. In the past years, she toured in several countries with French artist Fishbach, as a bassist. Blades is releasing a single from her up-coming album, Visitor, due out in March of 2019. The single “Kiss Me On The Mouth,” finds Blades’ graceful singing presenting a character trying to persuade themselves of an innocence long lost, with a catchy melody and surprising form. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Blades singing is unique in its quality and her songwriting is solid. Love the guitar solo too.

Bottom Line:

Blades’ “Kiss Me On the Mouth” is set to a medium tempo rock beat. The song goes through various feel changes in the form, which keeps the interest. Blades also changes the quality of her vocals for dramatic effect within the melody. The instrumentation is full and has a vintage vibe to the sound. The corresponding YouTube video was filmed in Mexico City and directed by the collective Fuerza Basicas and features Blades dressed in multiple outfits, picturing the redundancy of the day-to-day experienced with different disguises. Blades is a self-taught vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, all of which she does with authority and conviction. Her guitar solo is very tasty adding up to an enjoyable listen in anticipation of the full album in 2019.
