Based in Nashville, Tennessee Mel Bryant & the Mercy Makers is comprised of four friends who moved from Philly and New York to settle in East Nashville.  Led by bassist and songwriter Mel Bryant (vocals, bass) and backed by fellow band-mates: Conor McCarthy (guitar), Aaron Hicks (guitar, vocals) and Brendan Bird (drums). They run their own recording studio, Electric Church Records, and work as the backing band for various local artists including: Katie Ruvane and American Idol contestant Caitlin Lucia, whose audition video has over a million views. They are currently self-producing their debut album, to be released in Spring 2019 with a tour to follow.  Until that time, we can all enjoy their single “In My Head.”

Positives:

Prodigious songwriting, with meaningful harmonies. Bryant has a vocal quality that is penetrating and has the right amount of yearning to capture the listeners attention from the first notes.

Bottom Line:

Mel Bryant & the Mercy Makers recorded their debut single “In My Head” in their home studio. Covering the mainstay subject of unreciprocated love with their own brand of irony. The tune written by Bryant is from personal experience. Bryant wrote the lyrics about her bandmate McCarthy three years ago, while he was dating someone else. Months later they fell in love, and the rest is history, they have been making music and making their own memories ever since. “In My Head,” has all the trimmings of a hit song. A memorable hook line that sings itself and an equally catchy melody makes this tune a triumphant entry to their impending full-length album
