LPX is the professional name of vocalist Elizabeth “Lizzy” Plapinger, when performing as a solo artist. She is also the lead vocalist of the indie pop duo MS MR and co-owner of boutique record label Neon Gold Records. LPX is releasing a new four song EP titled Junk of the Heart, which was co-written by Anthony Rossomando, who also co-wrote Lady Gaga’s “Shallow.”. Rossomando is a busy man, he also co-wrote Kelsy Karter’s new single “What U” (Read Our Review HERE). LPX is a strong vocalist with the pipes and attitude to sell this alternative rock set of songs. She brings pop and rock sounds together throughout the EP and she seems to be reveling in a world of open-mindedness and musical exploration.
Positives:
The songwriting and subjects are interesting and LPX is always stretching for something new, which gives the music an enjoyable edge.
Bottom Line:
LPX is on a creative trajectory that is a strong musical statement in combining pop and rock with solid melodies and song forms. “Black &White” has a big chorus and swirling synths, the feels a varied and Plapinger’s singing is impassioned. “Give Up the Ghost” has a building synth pattern and really shows Plapinger’s vocal quality and personality. Junk of the Heart, represents and effort that shows Plapinger put herself on the line with so many emotions and that makes the tunes more alive. While it's a very L.A.-sounding EP, the music is relatable in both pop and alternative rock genres. The tunes have parts that intrigue on different levels with vocals, vocal harmonies, counterpoint, keyboards, and drum patterns that have a definite groove. Longtime LPX and MS MR fans should enjoy this music very much, and new listeners will be glad to learn about LPX. That’s the short of it!
