Hailing from London is a deep funkin dude by the name of Drab Habit. Focusing on sounds that are a fusion of funk, fuzz-rock and big brass, Drab Habit expresses music that is a combination of early 90s Red Hot Chili Peppers and early 70s James Brown. He is just as much at home in the sound universe of alt-rock too. A self-taught guitarist, Drab Habit’s early musical interest was firmly rooted in the Seattle grunge scene, with a sprinkling of 60s & 70s classic rock: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden & Stone Temple Pilots meets Hendrix & Led Zep. But, with age and through involvement in a variety of different projects, his musical palette and skills broadened, and he became increasingly interested in more diverse recording and production techniques. Drab Habit is now bringing his wide range of musical tools to his latest single, “For Those with Stereo…”
Positives:
“For Those with Stereo...” creates a musical space that is atmospheric, with clean guitars, deeply groovin’ bass and a solid funk beat.
Bottom Line:
The groove is slowly developed as a British accented lad describes to us how to adjust the stereo. Usually speaking during a tune is not our thing, but Drab Habit pulls it off with a lot of interesting layers of musicality. The bass slaps and pops with energy and the guitar makes spanky figures around the punching horn riffs. The organ is straight from the seventies as the form unfolds with different textures and feels. Solid sounds and songwriting create a track to just kick back to and enjoy. That’s the short of it!
