James Bay hit the scene in 2014.  His emotive vocals and Johnny Depp good looks are only matched by his unequalled vocals and soulful style. Following the release of his debut album Chaos And The Calm, he was nominated for “Best Rock Album,” “Best Rock Song,” and “Best New Artist” at the 2016 Grammy Awards, additionally the record became the “Biggest New Artist Album Release” in the UK that year. 2018 brought the release of his full-length album Electric Light.  Now in 2019, Bay has an EP titled, Oh My Messy Mind. Additionally, Vevo has joined together with Bay to release live performances of “Bad” and “Break My Heart Right.”

Positives:

Bay has a singularly unique voice, his angst filled voice wrings with the earmarks of a true soul singer.

Bottom Line:

The EP features guest artist Julia Michaels, who also has one of the most soulful writing styles in today’s modern era of songwriting. The two are magnificent together on “Peer Pressure,” while “Bad,” which was produced by Dan Wilson (Adele “Someone Like You”) is for anyone who has gone through a heart wrenching break up. Bay’s voice is filled with emotional delicacy and powerful resolve. “Rescue” and “Break My Heart Right” are co-written by Ryan Tedder produced by Ariel Rechtshaid. Its easy to see why Bay has catapulted quickly in his career. He has the once in an era voice and his music depicts deeply personal storylines. That’s the short of it!
