Alicia Stockman, The Problem Review
Connect with Alicia Stockman: Facebook
Salt Lake City based singer-songwriter Alicia Stockman is not a chart-topping pop star. She is a singer and songwriter who is passionate about the power of music. She prefers to sing to people, as opposed to singing at them. Alicia does everything in her power to connect with her audience through memories, experiences, and passion. In a world where music can be “made” at the push of a button, Stockman is an advocate of bringing society back to its roots through the experience of pure, raw music. In 2017, Stockman was recognized for her craft, winning the Suzanne Millsaps Performing Singer Songwriter Showcase. It was another step in Stockman’s musical journey – a journey that’s included playing barrooms, clubs, and house concerts. 2018 was been a busy year for Stockman. She put together a band, began recording, and is playing live in venues and festivals across the Intermountain West. Stockman is backed by Peter Kilian on keyboards, Nick Price on drums, and Nick Steffens on bass. The culmination of this journey can be heard on her new single “The Problem.”
Positives:
Stockman comes out of the gate with a full band this time, adding depth to the sound, but not losing the core essence of her songwriting message and beautiful voice.
Bottom Line:
At the core the tune is a break up song, focusing on the theme of still caring, but knowing you have to let go for your own heart to heal. It runs through the stages of saying goodbye; mad, sad and all at once relieved that you have made the right decision. Though backed by a full band, Stockman still feels they have the essence of her musical core of writing songs at the kitchen table. This stands true on “The Problem,” at the core is Stockman’s divinely organic voice, filled with honesty and heartfelt singing coupled with songcraft that sticks. Her songwriting ability is certainly beyond her years. We previously reviewed Stockman HERE. The same principles stand true on her latest endeavor, this is great songwriting with a beautiful voice creating a vehicle for listeners to connect to. In the ilk of Patty Griffin and the Indigo Girls, Stockman once again has created a great tune to savor and enjoy. That’s the short of it!
