Femke, Stranger Review
Dutch native Femke moved to the USA 10 years ago to pursue her dream to work in music. She has worked as a composer and or musician on several projects such as ABC’s 10 Things I Hate About You, including singing on the soundtrack of the movie Fired Up with Mark Hoppus from Blink 182. She has toured the US with several acts as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist and won a Latin Grammy with her contribution on the Transformacion album of Beto Cuevas. Previously living in Boston and Los Angeles, she decided that Nashville was a good fit, so in 2012 she started her own studio. Femke has worked with artists from the US as well as from Canada, Germany, Thailand, China, Holland and the UK, traveling all over the world with her portable studio. Her latest single “Stranger,” epitomizes the state of loneliness.
Positives:
Femke’s lyrics offer a state of mind that many of us have fallen into at one time or another. Her innocent vocal style and the solitude of the song compliment the overall journey.
Bottom Line:
“Stranger,” came from Femke’s personal experience. “Sometimes you find yourself in a hotel room somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a string of Christmas lights and a bottle of wine and you wonder why on earth you started this journey because it's a lonely one. So, this song happened in one of those hotel rooms, with a guitarlele and a bottle of wine and a lot of self-pity.” Explains Femke. Her voice is delicate and youthful yet commanding with just the right amount of fragility to compliment this well-conceived tune. A solid listen, worth the price of admission. That's the short of it!
