Sara and Kenny is a duet comprised of Sara d’Ippolito, a classical guitarist from Italy, and Kenny Reichert, a jazz guitar player from Wisconsin. In 2015, the guitarist met in Milwaukee and started composing music together to create a beautiful blend of classical, pop, jazz and folk, that will soothe and entertain. The duo’s debut album, Spirit of Gold, was released in the fall of 2015. The duet not only played guitars, but also sung, creating a sound that is intimate and yet sophisticated, harmonious and graceful all at once. Sara and Kenny spent many months on tour leading up to their second release, Familiar Rhythms. The album was recorded in Cosenza, Italy. Shortly after the duo relocated to London. Sara and Kenny are now releasing their third album, which is all instrumental, titled Landscapes. With five tracks that pairs Sara’s warm nylon-strung guitar with Kenny’s steel-strung big round jazz box. The five originals range from gentle pastoral colors to clean swinging jazz lines. Listening to Sara and Kenny on Landscapes partake in their intimate conversations has lots of rewards.
Positives:
The songs have a nice flow of styles and the songwriting is romantic and memorable. Both are excellent performs and the chemistry between the two is audible.
Bottom Line:
Sara and Kenny have released their first all instrumental EP with Landscapes. With five tunes the all have a name of a city; the duet takes us through a beautiful collection of melodies and improvisations. The nylon and steel string blend together to establish a rich aural environment. The music has elements of Latin rhythms, folk melodies, classical harmonic structures and melodic development and a strong presence of improvisation. Landscapes is built upon two unique and different personalities joining to produce something beyond their separate voices, forming a sound that is exciting and musical. Both highly accomplished performers and composers, they have combined forces to create a program of original works which welcome the listener to experience their beautiful musical relationship. That’s the short of it!
