VCATION is the brainchild of two of Sweden’s songwriters, producers and singers, Michel Zitron and John Martin. After years of friendship, music making, world tours, breakdowns and tequila-soaked stories, the pair joined together for a fresh project that features new melodies and stimulating concepts, all held together by genre-flexing pop classicism. Though the name VCATION may be new, John and Michel’s connection has done more than stand the test of time. Their sound has emboldened the fabric of modern music. Best known as the songwriting minds behind the incredible success of Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child (feat. John Martin)” and “Save The World” – the duo has also lent their talent to songs by some of the biggest names in music, including Martin Garrix, Tiësto, David Guetta and Avicii. Their latest single “Whiskey & Cola,” documents the tale of the broken hearted and the angst of a break up.
Positives:
Zitron and Martin offer a style that is style both authentic and inventive, with two unique voices paired together perfectly to form a sonic persona. Joined by Klei, the track is magical.
Bottom Line:
The idea behind “Whiskey & Cola,” is not as mysterious as one would think. VCATION explains: “We hung out in Berlin for a week this summer, working with new up-and-coming talents. When we had a session with Klei, it was a crazy hot day. Luckily, there was a little shop just by the studio where they sold those ice-cold cans of pre-mixed whiskey and cola. When we got back to the studio, we literally just played around - and that playfulness led to this new track.” The track builds itself up with Klei’s, Michel Zitron’s and John Martin’s vocals all mixed together, completed by a simple production that sounds effortlessly clean. With a focus on the acoustic guitars and the deep electronic foundation, the duo themselves describes it as a “pop track for the broken hearted.” The single is effervescent, the addition of Klei gives the track a shimmer of brilliance and sparkle. That’s the short of it!
