Sense is an electronic based avant-pop collective that is comprised of three French engineering students: Matthieu, Paul and Marius. The concept behind the name and music is based on the 5 human senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing. Sense’s 2017 debut EP, Esper (Extra-sensorial perception), served as an introduction, with each song embodying a different sense. The band later released two additional singles “Last Cigarette” and “All Mine” – that have 8 million+ combined streams on Spotify and Youtube. The band continues to have each subsequent EP focus on a specific sense and emulate its characteristics. Their new 5-track EP Taste focuses on one of the senses, hence the title. Each song was created with the idea to describe one of the five distinct tastes (Salty, Sweet, Bitter, Umami and Sour) whether it be in the instrumentation, the lyrics or features. That’s the Short of It!

Positives:

Sense brings us an array of electronic sounds that are musical and relaxing.

Bottom Line:

Sense is a band that is exploring the human condition through music, on Taste their namesake is explored with the next deepened subject. The music on the five song EP is flowing in both sound and themes. All five tracks deal with the distinct tastes and all have a common musical theme of music that ultimately sooths and entertains. Drawing on a wide range of sound: inspirations from nature, ethereal vocals to steady beats, Sense always maintains an even flow. Each track has musical themes that float in and out through electronic and acoustic instruments. The three engineering students are certainly up to constructing and planning with functional forms and utility, and Taste is no exception. Get ready to enthrall your spectrum.
