Elaine Palmer hails from an isolated village up on the North Yorkshire Moors. Growing up in the wilds of Yorkshire, Palmer surrounded herself with music, writing songs, playing the piano, guitar and singing.  After seeing her play live Inspiral Carpet’s Clint Boon invited Elaine to record at his home studio, the culmination of this would turn out to be her debut album, Into the Spotlight. Elaine continued to tour extensively playing with a host of successful artists including Paolo Nutini and KT Tunstall. She then released a live studio album, Fire and Flames. Her album Show me the Way was more complete with layers of vocals, electric guitars and pedal steel. Elaine’s last LP, Still Life was released on her own label Mill House Records in 2017.  Palmer is back with a new single and video titled “Blackened Heart” it is the first glimpse at her new impending EP Desert Songs.

Positives:

A gritty tex-mex sound that revels in a classic country songcraft. Palmer continues to grow her stunning discography and “Blackened Heart,” is a riveting preview of the album to follow this year.

Bottom Line:

“Blackened Heart” was written in anticipation of a road trip across the Arizona desert into Mexico,” explains Elaine. “I was longing for adventure and freedom, that sensation of stripping everything back to the start - the dust, the open road, the heat…and the unknown.” Palmer is the kind of songwriter that her lyrics penetrate your heart and speak to your emotions. Her lyrics are relatable, and her voice is accessibly warming. Like a good friend whispering in your ear, her voice will haunt your soul with its essence. With a hint of Stevie Nicks in her inflections, you will find yourself going back for more. That’s the short of it!
