Melbreeze is an artist that has steadily released evocative and groundbreaking CDs for several years now.  Most have been produced by former bassist of the Yellowjackets Jimmy Haslip. This project he is joined in the production chair by Scott Kinsey, best known for his work with Tribal Tech.  Melbreeze was born in Smyrna, Turkey to parents who deeply supported the artistic atmosphere that flowed through the home. Her first foray into performance was through ballet, which she started learning when she was five years old and pursued for many years to come. After completing her academic education, having majored in Business Administration as an undergrad and going to the United States for further education, Melbreeze focused on raising her own family.  Music never left her heart, with a succession of deeply explorative albums, her latest endeavor Animazonia is filled with mostly Latin underpinnings.  That’s the short of It!

Positives:

Melbreeze is a highly creative artist, her husky voice is spellbinding. Her phrasing and ability to meld the imaginative with the exotic is intoxicating.

Bottom Line:

The production is top-shelf, and Melbreeze is equally inspired. The program traverses thorough varied textures and themes all based in the Latin idiom. Her voice is mysterious and sensual. Melbreeze tackles well-known Latin tunes in a completely original and natural way. A prime example is the classic “Mas Que Nada,” this tune is well-covered in the Latin field, yet Melbreeze makes you feel as if you are hearing it for the first time. The original and title track on the CD, written by Kinsey is a fiery tune that features many layers contrasting sounds. The song is celebratory and uplifting and the epitome of the creativity of this project and its adventuresome spirit.
