YONAKA, Creature Review

YONAKA-staccatofy-cd

The Brighton based four-piece group, YONAKA is pre-releasing the title track single “Creature,” off their impending EP set to release on November 9, 2018.  The band is comprised of Theresa Jarvis (vocals); George Edwards (guitar); Alex Crosby (bass); and Rob Mason (drums).  They players met in college, though each played in different bands at the time. They got together in 2014 to form their own brand of sound and rapidly gained a reputation for their live shows.  Now in 2018 with the album launch for Creature, the group is rewarding their fans with a sound the thrills and spanks the ears. That’s the short of it!

Negatives:

Hard hitting beats, hook laden lyrics and intense vocals with a wall of sound coming at you. it’s hard not to want to be a Creature too. Bloody amazing!

Bottom Line:

Jarvis’ vocals are sensual, effective and get to the marrow of the lyrics. YONAKA utilizes large production values with fiery head-banging rock, pop driven melodies and slick beats to create their own brand of alternative rock. “Creature,” has an earthy sound, wrapped in throbbing guitar driven melodies, almost a tribal sound with clear cutting distinction. “Creature,” has a hypnotic feel that draws you in as a listener. YONAKA has made good use of each players talents, as each adds their own merit to the track for an overall alternative sophistication.
