The Great Escape is a three-piece band from Venice, CA, comprised of Kristian Nord (drums, bass, production), Malte Hagemeister (guitars, production), and Ingrid Andersson (vocals). Their genre-bending approach to songwriting has been a cornerstone of their success. The band’s eponymous, self-produced debut album came out in 2014. On the heels of that albums success the band released Universe In Bloom, released in 2017. They are currently working on their third full-length, impending in 2019. Until that time, the trio’s latest single “All You Got Is Gold” is available to savor. That’s the short of It!
Positives:
The Great Escape has their own unique sound, its distinctly their own blend of brand, and that my friends is gold.
Bottom Line:
Recorded live and in a semi-acoustic format in Venice Beach. Already featured in Netflix series The Haunting Of Hill House, the group serves up an innately stripped down sound, that is quite effective. Ingrid Andersson's robust voice has a twang of gentleness, that resonates through the well-penned single “All You Got Is Gold.” Flavored with a smidge of banjo, band-mates Nord on drums is effective, yet provocatively skilled, while Hagemeister on acoustic guitar is the bands melodic and harmonic driving force. Together they create an enduring listen of surprise, delight and enjoyment.
