Scott Fisher is a Los Angeles based, Portland OR. Bred guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and vocalist. Fisher has moved gradually from the club scene, which he regularly toured, to the recording studio in recent years: producing/writing and mixing for other artists as well as various network television shows. His songs have been featured in Parks and Recreation, Better Call Saul, Raising Hope, Gossip Girl, Brothers and Sisters, Smash and Felicity, just to name a few. Still, the passion and desire to play live and record his own original songs burns within his heart. Fisher released an album focused on the old-fashioned world of record making with Jumpin’ at Shadows. Fisher is now releasing a collection of covers titled, Songs of Jerry Garcia and Others. Teaming up with longtime collaborator Jeff Anthony (Sheryl Crow/Chuck Prophet) on drums, Fisher sings and fills in the remaining instrumentation on the ten-track project.
Positives:
Solid singing, sounds and playing that fill the fifty-four minutes.
Bottom Line:
Songs of Jerry Garcia and Others brings to life the possibilities of great songwriting as imagined through the musical lens of Fisher. Opening with “Peggy-O,” Fisher gives the Garcia tune a more rock influence and feel and to good result. The guitar solo is tasteful and carries elements of both the original and Fisher’s style. “Forever Young” keeps some of the Bob Dylan vocal qualities as Fisher explores the falsetto register of his voice. “Stella Blue” is a solid ballad that keeps a similar mood to the original Grateful Dead version. Songs of Jerry Garcia and Others exhibits Fisher’s strong vocals skills and his guitar and keyboard work is very enjoyable. Solid sounds if you are into hearing the variances of the Dead’s repertoire. That’s the short of it!
