Joe Dolman is a twenty-two-year-old singer-songwriter from Leamington Spa. Dolman’s music has been played on BBC Radio 1 from the likes of Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing and playlisting spots on Apple Music’s “Today’ Acoustic” and Spotify’s “Autumn Acoustic” playlists. His first appearance on the big stage was at Hyde Park back in 2014, since then he has taken his music around not only the UK but overseas also – including festival appearances at Reeperbahn in Hamburg and house concert tours across America. Dolman has a keen ear for songwriting and writing catchy melodies. Those skills are put to good use on his latest single, “Happy For You.”
Positives:
A catchy melody and a relaxed vibe allows Dolman’s voice to ring clear.
Bottom Line:
“Happy For You” has a sparse instrumentation and is build around Dolman’s solid vocals and a mellow guitar part. The tune evolves as various instruments do enter as the form evolves, but the theme and focus on Dolman’s voice is never overshadowed. The harmonic progression has a few surprises that will perk your attention. Dolman’s vocal style is based in a solid range, pitch and mellow timbre. Combine that with his well-written lyrics and memorable melodies and you have a winner here. That’s the short of it!
