Hailing from Toronto Canada, Merival obtained considerable attention from their debut album Lovers. A collection of songs written about people she loved before the age of 20. Merival knows something about drawing inspiration from tension. Gathering from the romantic and familial, she deepens the roots of her creative process when it comes to honing her craft. Her latest single “Sinner,” is about being caught in two place, the known and the comfortable, and the unavoidably new and the tension it presents.

Positives:

Merival’s easy going voice immediately illuminates the listener and binds them with her beloved vocal sound.

Bottom Line:

Just the right amount angst, with a pinch of desirous, Merivals music is reminiscent of the risk taking of Tori Amos, with keen lyrics and a sweeping vocal range. Her lyrics are believable, and her voice is the vehicle that delivers her unavoidable infectious sound. That’s the short of it!
