Joseph of Mercury is a Toronto singer, songwriter and producer that has been working behind the scenes as a co-writer for years. He co-wrote Majid Jordan’s “Something About You” and has provided guest vocal production on Blood Orange and Nelly Furtado’s “Hadron Collider.” In 2017, Joseph of Mercury, (who described himself as being born to the dying synthesized bells of the 1980s and reincarnated from the velvet gentlemen of the 1950s) released his self-titled debut album. The EP contained six songs and was an honest expression from an artist expanding with inspiration. The album was featured on Elton John’s Beats1 program Rocket Hour. Joseph of Mercury is now releasing a single titled, “Reluctant Love.” With a relaxed R&B/rock beat, Joseph of Mercury sings with a warm tone and a sensual delivery. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Full production surrounds Joseph of Mercury as he sings a catchy melody that flows through a song form that surprises and entertains.

Bottom Line:

Joseph of Mercury is breaking out from behind the scenes to introduce the world to his own unique artistry. With elements of rock, R&B and pop, Joseph of Mercury presents music that has a wide appeal and pleasing sound. "Reluctant Love" engages a lush production with a moving bass line and keyboards, that fills the space around Joseph of Mercury. The chorus is sturdy, and Joseph of Mercury displays a robust upper register that makes the melody memorable and bursting with energy. String sounds and an energetic saxophone solo at the end gives “Reluctant Love” a nice lilt at the end of the tune. Joseph of Mercury offers a beautifully conceived soft rock sound.
