Positives:
Robinson has a blues, funk and rock guitar style that is based in excellent time feel and a smooth warm guitar tone.
Bottom Line:
Joe Robinson’s Undertones is a solid collection of twelve tunes. There are plenty of varied tempos and feel and Robins switches between acoustic and electric guitar to give even more of a sonic variety. His vocal style is soulful, and the songwriting is exciting with solid forms and interesting lyrics. Robinson is a wonderful guitar player, combining the sounds and feels of blues, rock and funk. Album highlights include “(Do You Want It) To Be Me,” “Anything But Love You,” and “Reputation.” Robinson’s singing is a lot like his guitar playing, pure, focused on melody and always in the rhythmic pocket. Fans of blues to rock and even pop fans that like more pop rock will love Robinson’s cross-genre appeal. It is wonderful to find a new artist that is an outstanding guitar player, vocalist and songwriter. Dig in, you won’t be disappointed. That’s the short of it!
