Dublin singer-songwriter James Galvo Parker brings forth his preeminent songwriting talents, and lends them to “The Weight,” his powerful debut single.  Parker is a working actor based in Dublin and London and recently appeared in Mark O’Rowe’s The Delinquent Season opposite Cillian Murphy. “The Weight” is released on Parker’ own label Rebel Beat Records, and was recorded, mixed and mastered at Porchlight Studios by producer Niall Woods (sound engineer at Dublin’s National Concert Hall and a touring member of Once – The Musical). Parker and Woods are part of the recording collective ‘A Dark Horse’ along with Hugh Rodgers, who provides the moving piano and string arrangements that drive this new single. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Caressing beauty abounds the companion video for a visually soothing experience, while the angelic voices blend together in perfect harmony. Warning: those with Photosensitive epilepsy should take caution, as the video does feature continuous flickering screens.

Bottom Line:

“The Weight” offers a personal story. Set in the midst of Storm Ophelia, which struck Ireland in 2017, “The Weight” lyrically reflects on a series of events (both literal and metaphorical) that happened during the storm with a musical journey of moody and emotive indie-folk. Parker explains, “sometimes the weight of love can envelop and pull you down, sometimes there is no choice but to step into the storm and drown.” A beautifully cinematic video accompanies the single, shot and edited by Ciaran O’Donnell. The music ethereal, while the video is picturesque providing a feeling of respite and serenity, while soothing vocals wash over you are lifting “The Weight.”
