Goodbye June, Secrets In The Sunset Review
Goodbye June is a Nashville-based rock band that focuses on making music that speaks from their hearts, and to hell with what press and radio thinks. Goodbye June is releasing their EP, Secrets In The Sunset (Suretone Records/Cotton Valley Music). The band presents five tracks that are all rock ‘n’ roll, with overtones of Southern blues, and an obvious influence from the great rock bands of the 70s. Recorded at Black River Studios with producer Bobby Huff, the three-piece crew built tracks that have superlative vocals, melodic guitar leads and a powerful rhythmic pulse from the bass and drums. The band is also ending the year by joining rock band Greta Van Fleet on the road for their European tour. The band is comprised of cousins Landon Milbourn (lead vocals), Brandon Qualkenbush (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Tyler Baker (lead guitar). Strong vocals, excellent guitar work and hook-laden tunes put to good use rock ideals from the 70s with today’s attitude and lyrics. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Milbourn has vocal chops! Baker’s leads are in the pocket and melodic as they convey positive energy. Well written songs complete the additive of a successful EP.
Bottom Line:
Goodbye June has a strong set of five tunes on their Secrets In The Sunset EP. High velocity production with a balanced sonic gives space for each element to shine: the vocals are present and easy to hear, the guitar is balanced and presents solid riffs and solos with clarity and vigor. The bass and drums are full and kickin’ which moves the music forward. The lyrics are absorbing and strongly convey with Milbourn’s impressive range that is controlled and spot on. A full-figured listen, with plenty of spark the light up the season.
