Canadian guitarist and songwriter Emilio Bonito began his musical journey at the age of 4 by playing the piano. Bonito studied the piano for over a decade at the Royal Conservatory of Music, which also provided a solid musical foundation. At the age of 9, Bonito discovered the guitar and began his journey of musical exploration on it too. He has a wide musical pallet with most influences coming from avant-garde metal, progressive rock, indie folk, and psychedelic pop. Bonito’s guitar style incorporates fingerstyle guitar techniques and percussive effects. Bonito’s latest single, “Lobster” was recorded and produced by Michael Chambers (SØLYS/moon:and:6). “Lobster” is an interesting solo acoustic guitar composition that is built around Bonito’s signature percussive fingerstyle technique.
Positives:
The percussive fingerstyle technique Bonito uses gives energy and texture to the song. The mood is relaxing while still maintaining energy through the form.
Bottom Line:
“Lobster” is a beautifully written and performed instrumental song for acoustic guitar by Bonito. “Lobster” brings Bonito’s many influences converging to create a solo piece that has many textures, techniques and sounds. His fingerstyle playing also involves percussive strikes using his right-hand and strumming. Combine that with his finger picking and the sounds are diverse and create a tapestry of sounds. Solid composition and playing. That’s the short of it!
