Hartford, CT is ripe with talent a town brimming with dynamic creativity in the arts. Such is the case with indie-rock outfit Among the Acres. Already recognized by their homes state as “Best New Band” in Connecticut, 2018 by ctNOW. Their live performance career has taken them from hometown fixtures like Infinity Hall and Arch Street Tavern, to the intimate listening rooms of Radio Bean and Foam Brewery in Burlington, VT. They have also had the privilege of playing Main Stage at a number of regional festivals, such as the Glastonbury Harvest Festival, the Hartford Rib-Off Festival, and most recently the first annual Hartbeat Music Festival. The group consists of: Sean Lemkey: lead vocals, guitars; Michael Day: lead vocals, guitars, banjo; Greg Ganci: bass, vocals; Erik Lindblad: drums, vocals. They are set to release their debut LP Looking In March of 2019 and are gearing up for their Northeast Tour. They are releasing their single, “Falling.”
Positives:
Each member contributes vocals to the group, but lead vocalists Lemkey and Day each have unique qualities to their voices that add a depth and resonance
Bottom Line:
Among the Acres traverses a range of influences. On their latest single “Falling,” the band makes good use of illuminating vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentation that is a core sound to their emotional lyrical approach. Each member charismatically kindles their contribution to the overall band sound. What was most striking was the phrasing of the lyrics, it was at times elongated on lines and offered nice rhythmic variances filled with interesting vocal lines that lent to the dynamism of the song. A nice entry to their full-length album coming this spring. That’s the short of it!
