Marc Aliana, known as ALIANA, is a guitarist, songwriter, singer and producer from Barcelona that now calls Oakland California home. ALIANA suffered from vocal damage in 2015, which lead to him taking a break from singing. ALIANA was hired as the lead guitarist in Burn The Floor, a Broadway show that took him on a yearlong world tour. He used his time off to resume writing, while retraining his voice in empty theaters and noisy laundromats. Upon returning home and with his voice healed, Aliana set up his home studio in Oakland, and started producing and recording his debut album, The Entertainer. The album is a concept EP that follows the rise and demise of an anonymous character on a desperate mission for success and celebrity. In this chapter, the entertainer gets his voice stolen by a mysterious witch from the desert. ALIANA is releasing his third single from the EP titled, “The Entertainer.” ALIANA has a solid rock vocal style that is augmented by his smart guitar playing and creative songwriting. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

“The Entertainer” has a vintage sound that pulls from the best qualities of the pop rock of the 80s. His lyrics are interesting, and we loved the guitar tones.

Bottom Line:

ALIANA has a strong grasp of songwriting, add his attitudinal vocals and snarky guitar playing and you have something worth hearing with “The Entertainer.” Starting with a steady pulsed rock drum beat with slightly distorted syn part, the tune begins. Soon, ALIANA’s warmly distorted guitar enters and you know this is going to be good. Between each vocal phrase is ALIANA guitar fills, which add energy and add interest. His song form is solid, with vocal harmonies floating in, keyboard pads and great guitar riffs. The chorus is catchy and has a wonderful glissando that adds interest. With a vintage sound, and rock-solid vocals ALIANA has put forth a clever single with “The Entertainer,” foretelling what will certainly be a solid debut EP.
