RØYLS are a pop group that is making their debut with their new single, “Savages,” via Big Noise / InGrooves. The band is comprised of Sean Killeen (vocals/guitar), Liam Ross (bass/vocals), and Drew Dirksen (vocals/guitar). Although this is RØYLS debut, they are no strangers to the industry. Each member has performed in other bands: Liam Ross (previously Take28 & Over Atlantic), Sean Killeen (previously Over Atlantic), and Drew Dirksen (LA-based – previously The Tide & O.D.L). “Savages” was co-written with legendary songwriter John Feldman (5 Seconds of Summer, Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Panic! At The Disco). The lyrics explores a relationship coming to an end and going through “the good, the bad, and the ugly” to save it. The music is a solid blend of alt-pop, pop-punk and indie-pop, RØYLS are generating crafty catchy music.

Positives:

Solid songwriting with a melody that sticks and lyrics that speak clearly to an emotion we all can relate to and understand.

Bottom Line:

“Savages” is set to an intoxicating pop beat. The first verse has a Reggae influenced guitar part that flows into the solid pop style chorus. The vocals a solid and have a warm tone. The song form makes good use of feel changes and the driving beat in the chorus is very danceable. The vocal harmonies are solid, and the three singers blend together very nicely and match in color. There are elements of EDM that will pull ears and feet into the music. RØYLS are only just getting started and "Savages" is just a glimpse of what's to come. In a statement from the band, Sean, Liam and Drew write, "we feel passionate about the music we’re creating and the sound we’ve been developing the past months. It’s exciting how natural & authentic the songs have been coming out and how great it’s been writing them together. We’re stoked to get them out into the world." With “Savages” the band is steppin’ out with their good foot and presenting a song that evolves into a solid musical statement that incorporates the best of alt-pop, pop-punk and indie-pop into something memorable and entertaining. That’s the short of it!
