Rachel Platten hits the airwaves with her new full-length album Waves. Her 2015 hit single, “Fight Song,” shook the pop world and now with her strong following of “Plattenums,” the anticipated Waves has arrived. Platten continues with her social and political messages within her lyrics. Her music is still catchy as ever, and her singing is out-of-sight. The album has a nice flow of feels, beats and textures. Platten’s music is full of good feeling moments and even if you’re not into the socio-political messages, on a personal level the music and lyrics are self-empowering. This is music to bring out the fighter and survivor in you, male or female, and that’s the short of it!
Positives:
A nice blend of styles that shows she has been refining and defining her vocal style. Platten’s lyrics speaks of hope to a world that has too many pop musicians talking about negativity, sex and other unenlightened subjects.
Bottom Line:
Platten shows that her songwriting is evolving, and she brings new contemporary sounds into her mix. She mixes things up with fun compositional techniques in the music as she plays with time signatures (check out “Collide”) as she keeps her music tasteful and positive. Also, check out her new look!
