Daisy Helmuth has been earning her stripes at an early age with her solo career, when at the still early age of sixteen she decided to form a full band. She wanted to create something fresh and uniquely her own sound. Helmuth invited a few friends to her family’s Kentucky woodshed, and the magic began. Two girls and two guys forged what Helmuth calls a “grooving pop-rock twang; country grit, a bluesy punch and the “People Planet” sound was born.” The band is comprised of: Daisy Helmuth: vocals, guitar; Jack Quinn: drums, percussion; Madeline Farrar: bass and Charlie Overman: lead guitar. People Planet’s new EP just released, and the Power Play is on!
Positives:
Helmuth has a likeable voice, with just enough twang to hit the spot with the Austin, TX. country sound People Planet spins out a memorable listen with Power Play.
Bottom Line:
A nice mix of styles, dealing with heartache, confusion, addiction and life’s real subjects that folks are dealing with in today’s times. From the upbeat shuffle of “Valentine’s Day,” to the mid-tempo ballad heartbreak of “Come A Little Closer.” Helmuth’s voice is believable as she churns lyrics that get to the root of the matter. “Blues Boy,” features Helmuth in her most soulful moment. The band provides a heavy hitting groove for Helmuth to colorize. The double time pick up of the rhythm adds nice interest. While “Moment of Silence,” and “Rehab,” offer even more of a distinctive approach lyrically and rhythmically. Crunchy guitars, bluesy riffs and well-crafted lyrics fill the grooves of Power Play. That’s the short of it!
