Odreii, Runs in Mi Blood Review
Born and raised in Montreal, French Canadian/Jamaican singer songwriter Odreii was imbued in a musical environment. It was while living in the UK with her father, Odreii became a self-taught guitarist, that gave her a vehicle to perform her original compositions in pubs around London. She won first place at the prestigious The Stage UK vocal competition. In 2013, she won first place at the AppleBeam songwriting competition and received a nomination for Best UKSC Pop Written Song with “Wondering.” Odreii’s first EP Runs in Mi Blood was released by Higher Reign Music Group/Sony Music Canada.
Positives:
Danceable rhythms filled with passionate performances with an island flair. Odreii offers a dazzling listen with Spanish and Caribbean soulfulness.
Bottom Line:
Odreii offers an Island sound with hip-hop sensibilities, examples run hot on “Runs in Mi Blood,” and “Link Up.” While tunes like “Driver,” showcase her softer sensibilities and the soulfulness of her voice in an angst filled ballad. While “Always Been You,” showcases her pop sensibilities. One defining element is Odreii shimmering voice. Runs in Mi Blood runs the gamut of styles, all tied together by the cohesive performances by Odreii. That’s the short of it!
