Guitarist, vocalist and composer, Nancy Goudinaki also known to many as simply Nancy G, from the tender age of eight knew her ultimate pursuit in life would be music. She began that journey with classical guitar. She received her B.A. in Music/Fine Arts in 2007 from Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece.  Upon moving to New York City, she began to pursue her studies as a jazz vocalist. Studying with JD Walter, jazz composer and lyricist Miles Griffith, Cynthia Scott (The Raelettes), and Barry Harris (recipient of the 1998 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award).  Her debut album I Wanna Be Your Star (2014) featured a cabalcade of jazz heavyweights, including: pianist Orrin Evans, bassist Dwayne Burno, saxophonist JD Allen, and drummer Rudy Royston, featuring special guests- vocalist Miles Griffith, bassist Richie Goods and percussionist Daniel Sadownick.  Goudinaki’s latest single “Ariadne’s Lullaby,” is a beautiful tribute to her niece, recently born.

Positives:

A beautiful elastic sound that ruminates the renewal of a newborn, and the nimble dexterity of Goudinaki on the classical nylon strung guitar. An added bonus is the heartwarming coos and laughter of niece Ariadne.

Bottom Line:

There is nothing more touching than love of family. Goudinaki has certainly created a lasting keepsake for her young niece, but also a beautiful lullaby of beauty and sincerity for generation of parents and babies. Her original piece is heartfelt and offers a meditative beauty of significant proportions. Music is a healing and uplifting conduit when in the right hands. Goudinaki creates beautiful sonorities with her articulate playing. Her touch and tone offer a resilience that transfers to the buoyancy of “Ariadne’s Lullaby,” for a relaxing and refreshing listen. That’s the short of it!
