Mountains in the Sea is husband-and-wife duo comprised of Phil and Angela Lamb. Before the couple became the Lamb’s, they lived 3,000 miles apart, but their common love of music allowed them to wooed each other with cover songs they sent via Soundcloud. After marrying in 2012, the couple move to Washington State. They began performing locally as a duo and as a part of the five-piece indie rock band called The South Hill. In 2018 they formed a new duo project called Mountains in the Sea. The newly formed duet gave the couple an outlet for an indie electropop sound they were honing in on together, reminiscent of CHVRCHES meets Imagine Dragons. Mountains in the Sea is releasing a Holiday single titled, “Well, This Is Christmas.” The duet presents a solid track with a-pop vibe featuring female vocals, ukulele, blues guitar, and subdued jazzy drums. The lyrics are wonderful and the chemistry between the two is contagious. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
A relaxed vibe that will fit right in with all your favorite Christmas standards. Angela’s singing is beautiful as she conveys the emotions of the song with honesty.
Bottom Line:
Mountains in the Sea has created a wonderful Holiday tune that will seamlessly join your favorite Holiday playlist. Starting with a relaxed setting of ukulele and shaker, Angela sings the catchy melody. The second time through, the duet brings in drums, bass and guitar to round out the sound. The bridge has a rich background of vocal harmonies that adds to the sound and sonic variety. Phil takes a solid electric guitar solo that has influences of country and a touch of blues. The Lamb’s build a nice vocal phrase that climaxes with a high vocal note, giving a satisfying musical experience and movement. Mountains in the Sea have a chemistry to their music that comes from the special relationship only a husband and wife can have together, and the beautiful part is that it transfers to the music. “Well, This Is Christmas” is certainly a true Holiday find!
