Canadian artist Lanisa Dawn has had a vibrant and varied career thus far. Working as an actress in Hong Kong, she returned home and returned to Montreal with new found motivation and inspiration. Pushing forward full throttle, Lanisa she rapidly became a UDA apprentice and Full Member of ACTRA. Her roles have ranged from a principal role on the series/feature film “Aquaslash.” A principal role on the French Quebec comedy series “L’ascenseur.” Recurring principal character on the series “Oh My Lord.” Lead role in the short film “Lust.” Actor role on an episode of the new thriller series “The Detectives.” Principal in a national commercial for Cup Noodle’s “I’m Just Warmin’ Up” campaign. Lanisa is also a singer-songwriter, working on her first EP in collaboration with the production duo “The Lost Boys,” who have worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Canadian Gold selling artist Kristina Maria, and many other top Montreal and international artists. Until that time, we can enjoy “Witness,” her debut single. That’s the short of it!

Negatives:

Dawn possesses a strong instrument in her voice. Its depth and deeply hued timbre convince the listener of her sincerity. The companion video “Witness,” is compelling and shows the depth of this emerging artist’s profoundness.

Bottom Line:

“Witness” is a compelling story of loss, and the triumph of overcoming a tragedy. The line in her song “If we suffer, we learn to conquer,” comes from a place of self-dignity and survival through the toughest of times. Dawn’s voice is heartfelt and impassioned. There is an elegance and honesty about her delivery that lingers in your ear past the listen. Which for a song to be successful – it must have that staying power. Dawn is certainly one to watch, a refreshing listen to an emerging artist, that I predict will be going places.
