Kimberly Townsend is an American singer-songwriter based in NYC. Townsend’s sound is a blend of folk, indie pop, and soul, often compared to Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, and Ingrid Michaelson. Townsend’s debut album, The History and the Heart of It, will release first as singles, each with their own music video, exclusively on Spotify and YouTube. It will re-release in its full album form on January 18, 2019 on all platforms. The latest in the succession of singles is “Steps,” Townsend describes the tune as being about “what happens when coping mechanisms keep us from growing. It’s about how it feels to get lost in the haze of seeking validation externally instead of finding our power from within. And it’s about how healing takes time, baby steps, one after the other.”
Positives:
Townsend offers a lyric driven empowerment song. Her voice is honest and penetrating.
Bottom Line:
Townsend captures your attention with her earthy sound and penetrating lyrics. She explores the feelings of being stuck and how through self-examination the power of taking back one’s personal and powerful creativity is the most authentic act a soul can embark upon. Townsend has a perfect vehicle in her voice, its pure and heartfelt, which additionally lends to the impact of her sound. That’s the short of it!
