Kelsy Karter has been winning ears and fans alike.  With fans already in the likes of i-D, Billboard, Nylon and EW, soul-pop singer Kelsy Karter is quickly turning heads and winning ears.  Her single “Harry” is co-written with Anthony Rossomando (who recently won a Golden Globe and is Oscar nominated for his work on the track “Shallow” from” A Star Is Born”) and Tony Esterly (who has worked with artists such as Sia and The Struts). “Harry” is taken from Karter’s debut project, Songs For The Rocketship, which is set for release in March.

Positives:

Karter has a soulful timbre to her vocals. With a pouty angst filled style, Karter serves up “Harry,” with truthful anthems and heartfelt lyrics.

Bottom Line:

There is a retro 60s vibe swirling through Karter’s music, not only in the instrumentation choices but also in the video attire. Updated with modern day lyrics and an edginess, Karter cites her influences as the Queen, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and one can certainly hear those 60s influences of pop-rock and bluesy-rock n roll throughout the single “Harry.” Whom, it must be added seems to be the focus of Karter’s borderline obsessive affection. Recently, tattooing her face with the likeness of Styles as reported by the Mirror (UK). Karter further explains; “ My dog just died and my relationship just ended and I had spent 2 months in the studio crying and writing about it so the day I went into this session I told Ant and Tony that I just wanted to write some rock-n-roll and not have to feel anything too deep. I love that Harry has introduced the kids to rocknroll, and it’s common knowledge among the people in my life that I want to work with (and maybe snog) Harry Styles so we thought we would write a song about that instead." The single has an infectious melody and driving beats, and lyrics that linger long past the listen. For Karter’s sake, I hope that tattoo is a wash-off, as her music itself can stand on its own. That’s the short of it!
