Singer, songwriter and actress Anatoli Tsampa incorporates experiences living in Athens, Berlin and London with studies of literature, Cultural Studies, acting, dance and physical theatre to influence and reflect in her music. She has performed on stage and in film and has collaborated with various musicians, bands and music producers on indie-pop, jazz, soul, gospel, trip-hop and electronic projects as singer, co-writer and lyricist. Tsampa’s songwriting style tells stories of dark love, betrayals, beginnings and endings, the experience of leaving abroad alone in big cities, long journeys, nostalgia, the moon and the stars. Tsampa’s debut single, “Only a Stranger,” is now releasing.

Positives:

Wonderful piano playing accompanies Tsampa’s soft sensuous voice.

Bottom Line:

“Only a Stranger” is a solid debut single from Tsampa. The song has a nice flow, catchy melody and interesting lyrics. The song is about people who meet in big cities, where everyone comes from somewhere else. People who fall in love and stay together to feel less lonely, until one day they realize they had been strangers all along and all the life they shared was just a passing moment in time. Tsampa explains, “I wrote it on the piano, originally in a different key before choosing B-flat minor, a key that according to Tchaikovsky gives one ‘the feeling that you get when you are all alone.’” Tsampa worked with producer Paul Stanborough at studio 301 in London. Stanborough served as the in-house producer, programmer and engineer of acclaimed writer Guy Chambers. “Only a Stranger” is built around the piano as a basis to create a contemporary and evolving orchestration that supports Tsampa’s soft vocals. Wonderful sounds for a well-rounded vocalist and songwriter, a great first step. That’s the short of it!
