The Adam Price Group, House Ghosts Review
Adam Price is a versatile and skilled multi-instrumentalist whose primary instrument is clarinet on his debut album House Ghosts. Appropriately released on October 26th, 2018 just in time for the fall festivities. Hailing originally from Reading, PA. His interest in music was sparked at an early age. Two of his major inspirations on the clarinet are Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. After graduating from Boyertown Area Senior High School, Price spent two years at Penn State University before transferring and receiving his bachelor’s degree in Classical Clarinet Performance from New York University. On his debut endeavor he is joined by Jeff Hatcher (percussion); Spencer Inch (drums); Isamu McGregor (piano) and Jack Synoski (bass), together they create a joyful sound. That’s the short of It!
Positives:
The instrumental tunes offer an exotic flavoring with solid band chemistry between each musician. The additive of vocalist Kristina Rajgelj on a few tracks adds a mysterious timbre.
Bottom Line:
Featuring all original compositions, House Ghosts garners a distinctive colorization from the not oft used clarinet as the primary instrument. In the hands of Price his tone is warm and round, with quick fluid lines, and articulate solo ideas. He creates a fascinating prism of sound. The album offers a union of instrumental and vocal pieces that highlight Price’s writing style. From ballads, to Latin to brusque swinging tunes, House Ghosts fires on all cylinders.
