Frieder Mollat is a Munich-based songwriter/producer that started his music career in the mid 90’s following his passion for music. In 1995, Mollat graduated from college as a musicologist. Joining the music industry for a couple of years working for Warner Music Germany. Mollat has been writing music for several projects signing a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Germany in 2001. 2017 marks his personal milestone as a solo-artist with the launch of his own project KLANGPLANET. Eternity is Mollat’s self-released album. The project displays Mollat’s refined sense of balance, melodies and grooves. His passion for deep house and chill out music is at the core of each of Mollat’s tracks and his follow-up singles in 2018 are no exception: “Crazy,” “Tropical,” “Chinatown,” “Midnight,” and his latest, “Ipanema.” With hip grooves, catchy melodies, spanky guitar and energetic horns, “Ipanema” finds KLANGPLANET ending 2018 on a very good foot.
Positives:
The songwriting on “Ipanema” is varied and flows through sections that have flow and cohesion.
Bottom Line:
Mollat creates a soulful sound with his deep house track “Ipanema.” As the track title implies, there are Latin and jazz elements throughout the track that make the music flow and gives the ear plenty to bite into and enjoy. The bass line is full, with moving synth chords floating above as the rhythmic guitar adds interest. The horn voicings are hip and provide a nice call and response for various instruments and melodies. A soulful flute solo is answered by an alto saxophone solo and then piano. A funky guitar part brings us to the vocals. “You make me feel good” are the lyrics and that is exactly what Mollat has done to us with “Ipanema.” There a are plenty of variations through the song to keep things fresh. The end saxophone solo is very effective. Great beat and hip melodies, and that’s the short of it!
