Raising The Bar is Clark’s new release, one that features thirteen new tracks that contain her warm country vocals and excellent songwriting and production. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Clark’s theme on this album is about alcohol and Raising The Bar. This longtime country music topic is given many moods and settings within the tracks. Clark’s voice is commanding, and she seems to have a new-found energy on this recording.
Bottom Line:
Terri Clark’s Raising The Bar is a collection of tunes that show why she is now in the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Her writing and singing are focused and meaningful. The melodies are memorable, and the band is spot on. The songs are varied enough in style to keep the listener engaged and the pacing offers a nice range of emotions and subjects. It’s a welcoming country sound that makes you feel right at home. Clark’s voice has the honesty story telling of Mary Chapin Carpenter, with the stirring resolve of Wynona Judd. She’s the grittier side of country, that offers songs about real life and the reals struggles and her voice conveys a believability that sells itself.
