Matt Williams, Back to Me Review 2

Matt Williams is a young emerging country artist bursting onto the scene.  He began his music exploration through his grandfather, who had a gospel group and at 3 years old he began to sing.  Williams grew up in Coffee Springs a community right outside Geneva, Alabama on a chicken farm, a small town with hometown values.  Williams grew up swimming in rivers and running through the woods and riding bikes around town. In High School, he pursued drumming in the school band and won best snare drummer in the state of Alabama and later best in the country.  After High School, Williams joined the Army.  He was enlisted from 2004-2012.  He deployed 3 times as an Infantry Non-commissioned Officer. Toured 2 times to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.  Williams lost many friends to the war and gained a family as well.  Williams writes songs based on real life experiences, and when I say real, I mean the mistakes as well as the triumphs. His approach towards writing is truth telling and heartfelt and comes from a place of connecting with listeners in a relatable way. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Williams tunes are right in line with the Garth Brooks approach of the early 90s, great Honky-tonk tunes and poignant love songs that celebrate the simpler things in life that mean the most. Themes of good friends, great times and down-home values. His voice is polished and has a resonance of honesty. His tunes are instantly relatable and linger long past the listen.

Bottom Line:

Why is this man not signed to a major label? This is an artist that is the full package. His vocal ability is buoyant and poignant, yes, I know it rhymes, but it’s true. He can write tunes that actually speak to everyday people and isn’t that what country music is about. Back To Me seems to be Williams’ ninth album and its coming from someone who is clearly a seasoned veteran working his craft. I hope there is a label out there listening, this artist has the goods and the spit shine to back it up.
