CountryMust Have!

I’m With Her , See You Around Review 2What do you get when you put three folk legends in one room? Well, the folk group I’m With Her of course! The three-female folk trio, I’m With Her is: Aoife O’Donovan, Sarah Jarosz, and Sara Watkins. Each are legends, with a lengthy list of collaborations, repertoires, and musical abilities. Besides singing, these talented ladies play two different instruments on the album, with Watkins on fiddle and ukulele, Jarosz on mandolin and banjo, and O’Donovan on piano and synth. However, as one can imagine, the real magic happens during the vocal harmonies. All the songs on the album, except “Hundred Miles” which was contributed by Gillian Welch, was written by the group at a self-imposed retreat in a Vermont farmhouse.  Put all this with twelve great songs and you have the new I’m With Her album, See You Around. That’s the short of it!

Positives:

Breathtaking singing, seamless harmonies. The music is genuine, has strong melodies and interesting song forms and styles.

Bottom Line:

The trio delves into new musical and artistic territory, all with positive result. An album that is all about the boldness to move into the future with confidence. Songwriting that moves both musically and emotionally. The singing is outstanding, whether lead or harmony, their voices are simply lovely. I’m With Her is three acting as one, resulting in a unified sound that is soulful and intricate, while remaining completely accessible and emotive.
