Bringing a powerful sound to the world of blues, is singer Beth Hart and guitarist Joe Bonamassa. Hart offers a passionate soul singer vibe from Los Angeles California, and Bonamassa, a blues shredding guitarist from Upstate New York, combined, they ignite the airwaves with an energetic modern twist on the great blues tradition. Hart has released 10 studio albums. The pair met back in 2010 when all-star producer Kevin Shirley urged them to combine their immensely talented forces. Not long after, they released their first all-covers album Don’t Explain in 2011. The album received a lot of praise as “one of the best rock albums of the year” and quickly reached the number 3 spot on Billboard’s Blues Chart. This collaboration was so successful that they decided to record another album in 2013 entitled, Seesaw, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. They are now releasing their third studio album, Black Coffee. Together, Hart and Bonamassa are a powerful duo and one of the best in blues-rock music. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
Brilliant singing and outstanding guitar playing. The band is groovin’ and the horn arrangements are poppin’. There is a nice flow of styles and tempos. The material is well-chosen, and the overall vibe of the album is filled with powerful performances.
Bottom Line:
Both Hart and Bonamassa are one of a kind in their passion and energy. There is a depth and muscularity that honestly comes through the music. All ten tracks contained on Black Coffee have that raw emotional power that we all love in our blues music and these two have it in spades!
