Country artist Clint Alphin originally hails from rich country traditions of North Carolina, drawing inspiration from his home state’s heroes. “There is so much great music that has come out of North Carolina,” Alphin says. “James Taylor is perhaps my biggest influence; his phrasing and harmonic melodies are what have inspired me to first write songs.” Alphin moved to Nashville in 2003 and has subsequently released an EP and three full-length studio albums since then.  His impending release, Straight to Marrow, features a healthy dose of memorable tunes, and a staggering cast of great musicians. Straight to Marrow was produced by Neilson Hubbard and engineered by Dylan Alldredge. The album was recorded at Skinny Elephant Studios, Nashville, TN. The eleven tracks span a wide range of styles, instrumentations and emotions, but always hit an emotion core with Alphin’s lyrical style and delivery. Together they get to the heart of the songs and pull out the marrow of each tune for an uplifting listen.

Positives:

Alphin’s witty lyrics that eloquently tale the colloquialisms of the south. A mix of country laced with the goodness of bluegrass, each song sings itself.

Bottom Line:

Alphin has an embracing style that is based in solid-songwriting. His easy-going elegance resonates in all the right places, each song tells a story that is based in wit, wry, drinking or heartfelt tenderness. Alphin’s voice is organic, he has a vocal mannerism that immediately ingratiates the listener to sit back, relax and drink in good music. No fancy gimmicks or high fashioned words, just the sentiment great country songs were built on. Everyday people and everyday life, put to song with passion and heart. That’s the short of it!
