Ember Trio is a British (London) based string trio consisting of violinist Elliot Lyte and cellists Tom Huet and Chris Gascoine. The trio has released an album of very creative arrangements of eight cover songs titled, YouTube Sessions 2017. The trio has a contemporary sound, using various sounds, percussion, and electric and acoustic instruments. After a chance meeting following a string session at Abbey Road for Pink Floyd, the trio began arranging and uploading contemporary pop interpretations on YouTube in 2016. Within one year the trio amassed well over 20 million views across all social platforms. Ember Trio combines well-known pop tunes with their unique blend of classical and contemporary production elements and virtuosic playing to create a wonderful classical crossover string trio sound. That’s the short of it!
Positives:
A nice variety of tunes from the varied sounds of pop culture. The addition of percussion and other production effects adds to the contemporary feel without taking away from the trio’s arrangement of each selection. The playing is balanced and full of energy and results in an entertaining listen with different orchestrated colors for the interpretations.
Bottom Line:
The Ember Trio is bringing contemporary pop interpretations to life with a trio of violin and two cellos. The trio also tastefully adds contemporary production elements to fill out the arrangements and bring them into a more contemporary sound palette. The trio is very capable on their respective instruments and have spent much time and energy creating both entertaining and virtuosic arrangements of these tunes. Bravo!
